Christmas Eve, North and South

Christmas in Sweden is largely celebrated on Christmas Eve. In fact, most festivals are celebrated on the eve. Shakespeare’s 12th Night is translated as 13th Night Eve. For us, it’s great to spend some time with Jonas and his daughters Ann and Nina in Northern Sweden. Normally, it would be a kind of climate training for March – it’s normally well below zero at this time of year, but so far, we have had only one day of freezing temperatures and the lake is only partially frozen.

We are keeping an eye on the other intrepid expiditioners spending Christmas on Antarctica. There is a website where you can follow their progress, with journal, satellite positioning and photos. You go to the guest member page, and register.
